Qualities of Successful Entrepreneurs

I’d love to know, in your opinion, what makes a successful entrepreneur? Well, there has been a lot of research recently on the qualities of successful entrepreneurs. The first quality of all is hard work. 85% of successful entrepreneurs say that the reason was hard work. The second is due to self-discipline, meaning they were able to discipline themselves to work on their most important tasks throughout the day. The third is persistence in the face of resistance, difficulties, setbacks, failures, losses, etc. So if we were to take those three qualities, they would represent 90% of success. Firstly, hard work, secondly, self-discipline, and thirdly, persistence.

Importance of Discipline

Yes, discipline is very important. Let’s talk about discipline because you are someone very disciplined and it’s very inspiring. Many people are reading books on what they can do in the morning. What do you think they can do to achieve their goals? What are your triggers to be disciplined every day? Well, the starting point is to plan each day in writing on paper. If you don’t have a written plan, it will be like driving on a slippery road, you’ll go everywhere. The second thing you must realize is that there are only three things you do every day that represent 90% of your value. We call these the big three, sometimes I teach it as the law of the three. They are three activities that represent 90%, everything else you do represents 10% or less. So you must ask yourself, what are the three most important things I do in my work, and then you must discipline yourself to start with the most important task and work on it until it’s complete. It’s a very simple principle, but it’s the beginning, the middle, and the end of success. Decide what your most important task is, start immediately, and work on that task with self-discipline until you’re 100% complete. In life, it’s a very simple principle, but all success comes from completing tasks. It doesn’t come from working on tasks, it comes from completing tasks. Only when you complete tasks are you successful. So you must ask yourself, what are the most important tasks I must complete, and do that every day, every day. Then the tasks can change every day, yes, and the rule is not to check your email before 11 in the morning because if you check your email, you’ll have new ideas, new projects to manage, and it will be 5 or 6 in the evening and you’ll still be checking your email. So email must be used very carefully because it’s a great danger for distraction, and distraction is the opposite of discipline. The way to control electronic interruptions is to turn them off. Turn off your computer, TV, Skype, Facebook, turn them all off so you can work on those activities that generate more income. Okay, just to summarize and make sure I understand, you wake up and ask yourself, what are my top three priorities? I turn off everything, the television, Skype, Facebook, and electronic devices to focus only on my three actions or three projects until 11, right? The most important key to success is to start and complete an important task first thing in the morning, yes, to do the hardest thing first. If you try to do many things, you’ll end up not doing anything, so you make a list of all your work before starting and then ask yourself if I could only do one thing on this list, what is the most important activity, and then you do that activity only until it’s complete. If you start each day completing a task, it will double and triple your productivity, okay, great. But some people may hear or see us and say okay, I have to be disciplined, I have to know what my top three priorities are, but they won’t do it and they’ll ask, I don’t know how to be disciplined, I know what I have to do but I don’t know how to find the motivation to do it. How can you help them? Well, that brings us back to our discussion about goal setting because you must also have written goals for your life. A recent study compared

Success in Business

rich and poor people found that 85% of rich people have a big goal they work on all the time, only 3% of poor people have goals. So you must decide what your biggest goal is. If you’re in business, your biggest goal is usually personal income, business income, that’s clear. Then you ask, what are the activities I do to generate income, and which of all those activities is the most important right now to generate income? Entrepreneurs always think in terms of income generation and what we call value creation. There’s another interesting study that just came out, a very good study says there are three rules for success in business. The first is always choose quality over the lowest cost. Most companies think that the way to sell more is to reduce the price, but the real reason for success, and there are years of research on this, is to improve the quality of your product. The second rule is to focus on income generation instead of the costs of your business, instead of the price things cost.

Focus on income generation, and rule number three is that there are no other rules, two rules, focus on quality and focus on income. So improve the quality of your product. There was a study of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the world that came out last year and they found that the number one place they invested in was improving the quality of the product. If you had a certain amount of money to invest in your business, it wasn’t in advertising or machinery or computers, but in improving quality. That’s the key to success. So as a speaker, teacher, and writer, how do you improve the quality of what you do? Well, in my opinion, if I am successful, people will listen to me and take different actions than before and they will get better results, so my job is to study and research so I can offer people the best ideas they can use immediately to get better results. So I keep researching on every topic and sometimes I find a new idea that someone has learned that is better than an old idea, so I change it. The reason people attend a seminar is because you always say that a product has two

Hiring a Speaker and Finding Purpose

People rich and poor hire a speaker to do a job. In other words, how do you hire a carpenter or a cleaner or someone, a painter, to do a job, right? They hire the speaker or read the book or listen to the audio because they want him to do a job, and they’re hiring this speaker or audio or book to do a job. So the question you ask is what job does this person want me to do for them? Now it could be entertainment like going to the movies or socializing like going to a restaurant, that’s fine, but what is, what is the work, and you say, well, people want to increase their sales and profitability in their businesses, that’s very simple.

So I say my job is to help them increase their sales and profitability immediately as a result of my seminar. Some people will do a seminar and spend all their time telling stories about themselves, well, that doesn’t do the job, that doesn’t help people increase their sales and profitability. It may be entertaining but it doesn’t fulfill the commitment, it doesn’t do the job. So the other question is what problem needs to be solved. And in every business, if we’re talking about businesses, the main problem is low sales, sales are too low, right? So what is the solution for low sales? The solution is to increase sales, therefore the problem to be solved is to help people operate their business to increase their sales or increase their profitability. It’s a great answer.

I would like to know two things: what is your Why, if you have one, and if you have it, how did you find it? And also how can people find their own Why? Well, the whole purpose of business, the mission, the purpose, the objective, the strategy, in my opinion, is to help people achieve something or accomplish something that they couldn’t achieve or accomplish without your help, that’s the Why. And for me, the Why is very simple. When I was young, I was poor and I had no education or money, and then I discovered continuous learning, personal development, I discovered that you can learn anything you need to learn to be successful in that area. You could learn brain surgery if that was important to you, you could learn to repair an expensive car, you could learn to prepare a dish in the kitchen, you could learn anything, you could learn all the business skills, you could learn all the sales skills.

When I discovered this, I still remember I couldn’t believe it because it meant that my potential was unlimited. And the more you learn because of the way your brain works, the stronger it becomes, so you can learn faster. It’s like a muscle, if you make your muscles strong you can do more in less time, yes, and so I practiced it myself and changed my life in a year. Then I started telling other people that this is how it works and they took the ideas and changed their lives and so I started teaching and telling people these ideas and then I realized I needed to learn more so I spent thousands of hours reading and studying and attending seminars, I took 4000 hours at the university to get an MBA degree, I took hundreds of hours of audio programs, maybe thousands, to learn new ideas to help people achieve success faster than they ever would because I had that experience I wanted everyone else to have that experience even when I’m talking to you now you can see that this is my passion because I want to help people succeed faster. Yes. So do you believe people can find their Why by looking at their struggles?

Sure, but what you have to ask yourself is if you had all the money in the world, if you were rich but you still had to do something, you still had to work, you couldn’t go on vacation what would you choose to do, what would you like to do? If you had all the money and when you ask that question you think about if I had all the money then I would like to do this it helps focus on what you really have inside. Here’s a very important story, they studied the 500 owners of the fastest-growing companies in the world and asked them why they chose this business and they all said I chose this business because I really loved the product I wanted the product for myself so I developed it for myself like the founder of eBay who was looking for a way to sell his candy dispensers he had a collection and there was nothing so he created a little internet auction site at first and then he found out that he could sell other things on an auction they built eBay one of the most successful companies in the world but he started it because he wanted it for himself you’ll always be successful if you create the product or service because it’s something you want and believe in for yourself a company that grew faster in this study of fast-growing companies grew 42,000 in 3 years 42,000 that’s 4200 times in 3 years well What was the product? The product was an iPad specially programmed for kids to do their homework and they put children’s TV programs on the iPad and they put the schoolwork on the iPad so if the child did the homework they could watch TV programs when they did more homework they watched more TV programs. So the kids were motivated to do their homework and all the children this little family two or three families got outstanding grades in school the grades always went up they always did their homework and always so the other parents said why your children

So, what is the solution for low sales? The solution is to increase sales. Therefore, the problem to be solved is to help people operate their business to increase their sales or increase their profitability.

Finding Purpose and Learning Continuously

The whole purpose of the business, the mission, the purpose, the goal, the strategy, in my opinion, is to help people achieve or accomplish something they couldn’t achieve or accomplish without your help. That’s the why. For me, the why is very simple. When I was young, I was poor and had no education or money, and then I discovered continuous learning, personal development. If you had all the money, and when you ask that question, you think that if I had all the money, then I would like to do this, it helps focus on what you really have inside.

Reflecting on Life and Business Success

At the end of your life, imagine this is the last day; when you look back on your life, what would be the three things you would be most proud of? Well, first, my family. I have four children, two of them are married, and the others will marry. I have five grandchildren and, of course, my wife, but my family has always been healthy and happy and had a good life. So, that’s most important to me than anything else. I would say secondly, that’s way below, I would like to say that I helped many people succeed faster, but probably the third thing is that I would like people to say that Brian Tracy was a good man, that’s it. How do you create a successful business and what is your view on it? Well, a business model has around 10 different parts, and they are very similar to the pistons in an engine, and the most important part of a successful business is happy customers. So, everything else must be secondary to happy customers; the main job of a business is to create new customers to make more sales, the second job is to make those customers happy. So, everything else is always secondary. So, if you have a customer, the customer is now the top priority, making the customer happy so that they come back and buy from you again. That’s the most important thing of all; that’s the heartbeat. The paperwork, computers, emails are all secondary; the customer comes first. Now, how do we know this is true?

All successful companies put the customer first, and unsuccessful companies think that customers are too troublesome or always ask for too much, and they think their job in their company is important. But the rule is that there are no results inside the business; all the results are outside the business with the customers. So, the reason you plan, set strategies, and organize is so you can focus on the most important things you can do to make your customers happy; everything else is secondary. Some human beings get along with each other, and others don’t. And this is simply a fact of life, just like when a man meets a woman, sometimes there’s a connection, and sometimes there isn’t. The same thing happens with customers; sometimes the customer likes you, sometimes it’s neutral. You can’t change that.

So, the key is to create as many opportunities as possible to meet as many new customers as possible. How do you find the people who will understand the mission and purpose of your company? It’s like finding someone to marry. You have to talk to many people, and I teach a complete program of seminars on how to hire the best people. But a simple way is to make a list of everything you would like in the perfect person. What would the perfect person be like? And then when you meet people, compare them with your ideas. Writing down these ideas will improve your ability to hire the right people two, three, or five times more; you will make much better decisions; you will recognize good people.
